Trip to Peel Island for Lazaret families
Sunday 22 September 2008 was a very special day. The weather was beautful, water calm and the tides just right for a beach landing by QPWS staff and guests to help celebrate 100 years of national parks in Queensland.
For many who made the trip, it was the first time they'd been to Peel Island (Teerk Roo Ra - now a National Park) and the lazaret - a place where family members had either been patients, or staff.

Annual boat trip—29 June 2008
Travelling on the Stradbroke Flyer's Gold Kat, we travelled from Toondah Harbour (Cleveland), past Peel Island with a stop at the Royal Qeensland Yacht Club at Canaipa Point for morning tea. After morning tea we then went onto the Volunteer Marine Rescue facility at Southport for lunch before returning to Cleveland. Expert commentary from local historian and author Peter Ludlow.
