Marine | Flora | Fauna | Geology Marine Peel Island lies in Moreton Bay, off the rapidly expanding South East Queensland region. The waters around Peel Island are abundant with marine life, including corals, sea grasses, dugong, turtle and many types of fish. However, these are under severe pressure and their long term health is not assured unless greater measures are taken to protect them. Currently, only 0.5% of Moreton Bay Marine Park is secure in 'protection zones' (also known as "green zones" or national parks). Marine scientists from across the globe tell us that 20-50% of all habitat types must be protected in our oceans if we are to ensure the health and productivity of our oceans.
